Math, Science, and Technology Programs
The Primary School curriculum encompasses many levels of mathematics: from counting
in Kindergarten to solving problems algebraically in fifth grade. Our students learn
math through a variety of manipulatives, games, texts, workbooks, and math journals.
Basic operations are sequentially taught in keeping with each child's progress and skills.
Students also learn through real problem solving and practical math. Calculators
are used to check answers and when the need for a mathematical operation outpaces skills already learned.
Our Science program offers hands-on work and experiments in physical, biological,
and earth and space sciences. Our Nature Trail, located behind the lower field, is used
all year as a place where native plants and animals can be observed in a natural setting.
Computers also play a role in our students' experience. Each class has a weekly session
in our computer lab, with Kindergartners' lessons lasting a half-hour, and classes for students
in Grades 1 through 5 lasting a full hour. Each classroom features an Internet-enabled computer,
to enhance our students' learning even more.
