Social Studies and Fine Arts Programs
At Young World Day School, we consider Social Studies to be a key part of a well-rounded education.
As a result, geography, with its emphasis on map reading, locating, and learning about people of
various regions, is studied at every grade level. For our younger children, history is taught
through our country’s holidays.
In the combined classrooms of the first and second grades, students learn about the United States,
other countries and cultures, Native Americans, and colonial history. In the upper grades, they study the
presidency, immigration, inventions, transportation, American architecture — as well as the histories of
New Jersey and the United States.
Our Fine Arts program provides students with an appreciation for the finest aspects of our culture.
Music, dance, drama, art, and literature are subjects of formal study — as well as a part of all other
areas of learning.
We also offer a variety of other programs to give your child as well-rounded primary education:
- French instruction by a native speaker is given weekly to Kindergartners and twice weekly to older students.
- Formal Gym classes are held for grades one through five.
- In winter, students are taught Yoga by certified instructors.
- In spring, grades one through five participate in the President’s Challenge.
